Incident Cases, 1996
Definition
Incident cases are defined as those people who developed a disease or sustained an injury for the first time in 1996.
Interpretation
For service planning; it is important to know how many people are affected or become affected by each disease. A detailed breakdown by age and sex is provided.
Methodology
Incident cases for 1996 have been estimated for LGAs by assuming each LGAs share of the total Victorian disability (in YLDs) would be equal to the LGAs share of Victorian incident cases. The total Victorian incident cases were estimated for the Victorian Burden of Disease Study; after examining for each condition the internal consistency between available estimates of prevalence; deaths; remission and or incidence. Software (DISMOD) specifically designed for this purpose by Harvard University and WHO was used to model the results.
